Baskets have been around for a long time, a most recent discovery dating pre pottery Neolithic period 10,500 years ago was uncovered, it was woven and believed to be a storage basket. Although willow baskets decompose naturally over time some were preserved in the peat bogs, all early baskets were made from materials grown locally, willow, rush, straw, grasses, docks etc and had a practical use.
Nowadays we have the luxury to also be more creative.
Here are some of the baskets which I have make using willow, straw and rush. Most of the willow is sourced from the Somerset levels where willow is grown on a commercial basis producing ideal rods for basket makers and creative willow products. I have started growing varieties myself now to expand on the variety of natural colours.
